Former Texas football star Jordan Shipley was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after suffering “severe burns” in a ranch accident.

Shipley’s family released the following statement through Texas Senior Associate Athletic Director and Public Relations Officer John Bianco:

“Jordan was involved in an accident this afternoon near his hometown of Burnett, Texas. A machine he was operating on his ranch caught fire and although he managed to escape, he suffered severe burns to his body in the process.

“He was able to contact one of the ranch’s employees, who drove him to a local hospital. He was then taken by CareFlight to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.”

Shipley, 40, played at Texas from 2006 to 2009. He teamed with QB Colt McCoy and became one of the top receivers in college football during his junior and senior years.

A third-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, Shipley played in 24 NFL games between the Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
