Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross have announced that their 10-year romance has ended.
Gibson and Ross, who began dating in 2014, broke up about a year ago, the former couple revealed in a statement to People magazine published Tuesday, Dec. 30. The reason for the breakup has not been disclosed.
Gibson’s rep also confirmed the actor’s separation from Ross to USA TODAY.
“While we are sad to see this chapter of our lives come to an end, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents we can be,” Gibson and Ross told People magazine. Gibson, a father of nine, has an eight-year-old son, Lars, with Ross.
Gibson was previously married to Robin Dennis Moore, whom he met in the late ’70s shortly after filming the action movie Mad Max. The couple had seven children but separated in 2006 after 26 years of marriage.
The Oscar-winning actor then dated Russian singer-songwriter Oksana Grigorieva from 2007 to 2010, and they welcomed Gibson’s eighth daughter together in 2009.
Gibson opened up about his relationship with Ross, including their 34-year age difference, in a 2016 interview with the Mirror. The 60-year-old actor was dating Ross, 26, at the time.
“When it comes to age and relationship status, it’s just a number,” Gibson said at the time. “She’s an adult and we’re all very competitive with each other. That can cause problems and some people are nervous about things like that, but it’s working out really well. She’s a really special person.”
The couple’s chemistry was also reflected on the silver screen.
Gibson starred in the 2022 sports drama Father Stu, which was written and directed by Ross. The film, which also starred Mark Wahlberg, Jacki Weaver, and Teresa Lewis, grossed $21.6 million worldwide.
