Rob Reiner and Michelle Reiner’s children break silence on their parents’ death
The children of Rob and Michelle Reiner have issued a statement asking for privacy following the “terrifying and devastating loss” of their parents.
A week after Rob Reiner and Michelle Singer Reiner were found dead in their home, their families say they are planning a memorial service for them.
Their children, Jake Reiner and Romy Reiner, revealed in a Dec. 22 statement to the Los Angeles Times and People that information about the service would be released.
“Jake and Romy Reiner remain grateful for the outpouring of love and support they have received. They plan to share information about a memorial service to honor their parents at a later date,” the statement read, according to People.
USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Reiners for comment.
Jake and Romy’s 32-year-old brother Nick Reiner remains in jail without bail after being arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has charged Nick Reiner with “fatally stabbing” his parents, who were found dead in their Brentwood, Calif., home on the afternoon of Dec. 14.
A preliminary investigation by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office found that the director and his producing partner’s wife died from “multiple sharp impact injuries.” The cause of death was determined to be homicide.
Nick Reiner’s arraignment is scheduled for January 7th.
Romy and Jake Reiner previously spoke to TMZ and People in a Dec. 17 statement about the “unimaginable pain” caused by their parents’ deaths.
“Words cannot describe the unimaginable pain that we are experiencing every moment of every day,” they said. “The horrifying and devastating loss of our parents, Rob Reiner and Michelle Reiner, is something no one should ever have to experience. They were more than just our parents, they were our best friends.”
“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received from family and friends, as well as people from all walks of life,” the statement continued. “We are now asking for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
Rob Reiner is also survived by Tracy Reiner, a daughter from ex-wife Penny Marshall, whom Rob Reiner adopted.
