WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald Trump announced on Sunday, December 21st, that he will appoint Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as special envoy to Greenland.

“Jeff understands how essential Greenland is to our national security and will strongly advance our interests in the safety, security, and survival of our allies and indeed the world,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

The White House and Landry’s representatives did not respond to requests for comment. It is not immediately clear whether Landry, who took office as governor in January 2024, will have to resign from his position.
