Barnes & Noble plans to open 60 new stores
Barnes & Noble is undergoing a major comeback, with more than 60 new stores expected to open across the U.S. in 2025.

Barnes & Noble will open more stores for readers to shop in the new year.
After nearly 20 years of “declining store numbers,” the bookstore plans to open 60 new stores nationwide in 2026, in addition to the dozens of stores it opened this year.
Barnes & Noble confirmed to USA TODAY that the location and grand opening date are still “under consideration,” but the expansion follows a period of “strong sales” at existing stores.
“Barnes & Noble is experiencing a period of tremendous growth due to the success of our strategy of handing over the management of each bookstore to local booksellers,” the bookstore chain said in a statement. “In 2024, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in one year than it opened in the decade from 2009 to 2019.”
That being said, a new Barnes & Noble store may be coming to your town in 2026, complete with the books, toys, games, and gifts that customers have come to expect.

Which state will Barnes & Noble open a store in next?
The bookstore plans to open stores in Ohio, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Colorado, Washington, California, Virginia, Georgia and Washington, D.C., with “multiple openings” planned between now and June 2026 in those states, according to a list obtained by USA TODAY.
