Michigan fires Sherone Moore for ‘inappropriate relationship’
Michigan announced in a statement that coach Moore was fired due to an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”

Sherone Moore was fired from the University of Michigan on Wednesday, Dec. 10, after the university found “credible evidence” that she had “an inappropriate relationship with an employee.”
Shortly after Moore was fired from Michigan State, the Saline Police Department assisted Pittsfield Township police in taking the former Wolverines coach into custody, according to reports. He was booked on Dec. 10 at 8:30 p.m. ET and remains in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail in Michigan, according to online court records.
The 39-year-old coach takes over the Wolverines’ program in 2024 after Jim Harbaugh leaves Michigan State to coach the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers after the 2024 College Football Playoff Championship Game.

Why was Sherone Moore arrested?
In a statement released on Dec. 10, Pittsfield police said they responded to a call at 4:10 p.m. ET “to investigate an alleged assault.” The statement also confirmed that an unnamed suspect was taken into custody.
Moore’s name was not mentioned in the statement.
“This incident does not appear to be random in nature and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community,” Pittsfield police said in a statement. “The suspect is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of the charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor. The investigation is ongoing at this time.”
Moore was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail in Michigan on Dec. 10 at 8:30 p.m. ET, according to online court records.
In a statement Thursday, Dec. 11, obtained by the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network, the Washtenaw County Courthouse said no documentation regarding Moore’s booking had been filed with the court.
The statement acknowledged that the court was aware of the “pending investigation regarding Sherone Moore,” but added that it was unclear when the court would “receive the necessary documents” regarding his case.
“The matter involving Mr. Moore remains under active investigation by law enforcement, and as a result, no charging decisions or arraignments are expected today. Mr. Moore remains in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail,” Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savitt said in a statement.

Moore is not scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 11, according to statements from Savitt and Washtenaw County Court. Online court records do not list Moore’s bond information, expected release date or court appearance as of 10:02 a.m. ET on Dec. 11.

Michigan State released a statement at 4:43 p.m. ET on Dec. 10 saying it had fired Moore after a university investigation found credible evidence that he had “an inappropriate relationship with an employee.”
“University head football coach Sherone Moore has been terminated for cause, effective immediately. The university’s investigation found credible evidence that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with an employee. This conduct clearly violates university policy, and UM will not tolerate any such conduct,” Michigan State Athletic Director Warde Manuel said in a Dec. 10 statement.
