The meeting comes as the Trump administration has faced increased scrutiny in recent days over the Sept. 2 attack on what appears to be a Venezuelan drug smuggling vessel in the Caribbean.
According to a Nov. 28 Washington Post report on the airstrike, U.S. forces carried out a second deadly attack, killing two survivors clinging to the wreckage. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said the report was “fabricated,” but the White House acknowledged on December 1 that a second attack had taken place.
The agenda for the Cabinet meeting has not been announced, but the Dec. 2 gathering could touch on the strike as it relates to tensions between the United States and Venezuela and the recent suspension of asylum applications from certain countries following the shooting death of two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C.
Later Tuesday, President Trump is scheduled to make an announcement in the Roosevelt Room of the White House at 2 p.m.
