Call 911: What you need to know
Calling 911 is only done in emergencies, but what is considered an emergency?
A Holland America Line passenger has been found after going missing during a Caribbean cruise.
Anne Evans, 55, was found when she failed to return to the cruise line’s Rotterdam ship during a port call in Philipsburg, Sint Maarten, according to the Sint Maarten Police Department (KPSM). “In coordination with KPSM and other partners, we were able to contact the individual in question,” authorities said in a Nov. 28 Facebook post.
Evans, a U.S. citizen, was reported missing on Nov. 20. Law enforcement said no other details about the passenger or her situation would be released “in accordance with laws governing privacy and protection of personal data.”
Police previously said in a Nov. 27 post that they “have reason to believe that a woman matching Ms. Evans’ description checked into a hotel on the French side of the island using her passport.”
“She was also reportedly seen in the surrounding area of the facility,” the update continued.
Authorities said Evans left the cruise ship for an organized tour and got off the bus in Marigot, St. Maarten, but never returned. This port call was part of a 12-day Caribbean voyage that departed from Fort Lauderdale on 16 November.
“We appreciate the efforts of the local authorities in Sint Maarten and are pleased that the situation has been resolved,” Holland America told USA TODAY in an emailed statement.
