Apple announced Monday that it is cutting staff across its sales team to ramp up its customer engagement efforts, noting that only a small number of roles will be affected by the cuts.

An Apple spokesperson told Reuters the company is continuing to hire employees and affected employees can apply for new positions.

According to Bloomberg News, which reported the news earlier in the day, affected employees include account managers serving major corporations, schools and government agencies.

Staff who run Apple’s briefing centers for internal meetings and product demonstrations for potential customers were also affected, according to Bloomberg.

One of the primary targets for job cuts was the government sales team, which works with government agencies such as the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Justice, according to the report.

According to Bloomberg, the team was already facing tough times due to the 43-day government shutdown and layoffs by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

In the past few weeks, companies like Verizon, Synopsys, and IBM have announced job cuts.
