Kevin Spacey recently sparked headlines about him being homeless after revealing that he “lives in hotels” and “lives in Airbnbs,” adding that he “doesn’t have a home.”

But now the “House of Cards” actor, who has faced widespread allegations of sexual misconduct since 2017, wants to clarify his comments in a Nov. 19 interview with the Telegraph. “It’s not usually my job to correct the media. If I was correct, I wouldn’t have much time for anything else,” the 66-year-old actor said in a video shared to Instagram on Sunday, November 23. “However, in light of recent articles alleging that I am homeless, I feel the need to respond.”

In an interview with the Telegraph last week, Spacey hinted that he was struggling financially. “Very little is coming in and everything is going out…I’m going to go where the work is,” he said.

However, in a video on Sunday, the actor said he was not clearing the air for the press, but rather to speak to the “thousands of people who have offered me a place to stay or asked if I’m okay over the last few days.”

“And to all of you, let me first say that I am truly touched by your generosity,” he added. “But I think it would be disingenuous for you to believe that I am truly homeless in the colloquial sense.”

Since 2017, Spacey has been accused by about 15 people of sexual assault and harassment. Several allegations made it to court, but the actor was never convicted by a jury.

The first allegation of sexual misconduct brought against him was by actor Anthony Rapp. In an October 2017 interview with BuzzFeed, he said Mr. Spacey made sexual advances to him in 1986. Mr. Rapp was 14 at the time and claims it happened at Mr. Spacey’s New York apartment.

Spacey has denied all allegations against him. In February, just over a year and a half after he was cleared of all charges in a high-profile criminal trial in 2023, Spacey faced his second lawsuit in the UK alleging sexual abuse.

Kevin Spacey addresses rumors of homelessness

Continuing to discuss the roots of the rumors, Spacey praised the Telegraph’s Mick Brown, who interviewed him, but said it was “unfortunate” that the newspaper used a headline “knowingly misleading” for “clicks”.

“I’ve been working pretty much non-stop for the past year, so I have a lot to be grateful for. And, as we all know, there are a lot of people out there who are actually living on the streets, in their cars, or in dire economic conditions, and my heart goes out to them,” Spacey said in the video.

“It’s clear from the article itself that I’m not one of them, and I wasn’t trying to say that I was one of them,” Spacey added.

Spacey also told the Telegraph that he felt the scandal surrounding the sexual assault allegations against him was “in my rearview mirror” and lamented the friendships he had lost with some people in Hollywood.

“Some people may have made decisions that I didn’t think were fair based on what they thought they knew at the time. … The fact that a lot of the people that I had relationships with in Hollywood were an inch thick is just so-so,” he said. “But my friends, colleagues, family, I have never felt alone at all.”

Regarding his return to Hollywood, Spacey said he feels his opportunities are slowly coming back. (In May 2021, he landed his first acting role since the sexual misconduct allegations in 2017. He has since landed other acting roles, including 2024’s “The Contract.”)

“I’m in touch with some very influential people who want to get me back to work,” he said. “And that will happen at the right time. But I would also say that I think what the industry is waiting for is waiting for permission from someone in a position of great respect and authority.”

Spacey, who won Oscars for “American Beauty” and “The Usual Suspects,” was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars until he was accused of sexual assault and then dropped from the TV drama “House of Cards.”
