Lucid Motors opens in Phoenix: Lucid Air sedan and Lucid Gravity SUV
Lucid Motors plans to open a Phoenix location, launch new cars in 2026 and provide jobs to hundreds of displaced people.
Lucid Group Inc LCID.O on Thursday launched a cheaper version of its Gravity SUV with a starting price of $79,900, as the luxury electric vehicle maker aims to reach a wider audience as U.S. EV sales slow.
The Gravity Touring offers up to 337 miles of range and seven-passenger seating and joins the pricier Grand Touring version of Lucid’s SUV lineup.
Orders for the new variant will begin on Thursday, with some configurations available for immediate delivery.
The model is part of the company’s efforts to expand beyond its flagship Air sedan and boost sales as U.S. EV demand wanes after a $7,500 federal tax credit expires at the end of September.
Lucid reported lower-than-expected sales of $336.6 million in the third quarter and lowered its full-year production forecast to about 18,000 units as supply chain constraints impact production of its Gravity SUV.
The company, like several automakers, has been plagued by chip shortages, rare earth material supply disruptions and the fallout from a fire at one of its aluminum suppliers in September.
EV makers from Tesla to Rivian have warned that demand will slow as federal incentives expire, weighing on sales.
