Epstein House Vote, Venezuela, Mamdani, SNAP, Tip Tax, Cowboys, ‘Wicked: For Good’: Daily Briefing

Welcome to a new day.🙋🏼‍♀️ I’m Nicole Fallato. Success means a Thanksgiving spreadsheet.

Let’s take a look at Tuesday’s news.

House plans to vote on releasing Jeffrey Epstein files

The Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on Tuesday on a bill that would force the Justice Department to release all records related to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Why now? The vote came after President Donald Trump called on House Republicans to vote in favor of releasing the full Epstein file, a stunning reversal after previously warning Republicans not to fall into Epstein’s “trap.”

  • What does this bill do? The Epstein File Transparency Act requires the Department of Justice to release “all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials in the Department’s possession relating to the investigation and prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein.”
  • President Trump has not said whether he will sign the bill. Even if he is, the president’s recently announced Justice Department investigation into Mr. Epstein’s ties to prominent Democrats could influence which documents are made public.

Venezuela’s military mobilization raises fears of war

In recent weeks, the U.S. military has mobilized military assets, including at least 15 naval vessels and multiple aircraft, to the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela. President Trump has repeatedly said the next attack could be on the ground and said he has “somewhat made up his mind” about whether to take military action in Venezuela. How did we get here?

Mamdani wants to bring free child care to New York City

But is it possible? New York City’s next mayor, Zoran Mamdani, has big plans for universal child care that would require changes to New York City’s current child care system, costing an estimated $6 billion and adding hundreds of childcare workers to meet the city’s needs. Experts say these workers are already thin and underpaid. And even among those who agree that universal child care is the ultimate goal, there are disagreements about how to achieve it. But advocates told USA TODAY that New York City is closer than ever to achieving free child care..

Are you excited that tips are tax-free?

Maybe not so fast. Although most Americans focus on federal tax law, you may need to start paying more attention to state tax law as well. The emergency bill passed in Washington, D.C., repeals key tax cuts touted in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, meaning states are seeking funding and showing how many states are trying to shore up their budgets by decoupling them from the federal tax code. For example, Washington, D.C., is eliminating the local income tax savings associated with the new tip tax exemption and the $6,000 senior bonus deduction. This means that District residents eligible for these federal tax breaks will not be able to apply for them.

Raiders and Cowboys honor Marshawn Kneeland

Monday night was bigger than football. Both the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders honored Marshawn Kneeland following his death on November 6th, an apparent suicide. Members of the Raiders wore 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline suicide prevention shirts. The Cowboys honored Nyland with a decal on his helmet, and team staff wore pins with his number 94 on his jersey. Allegiant Stadium held a moment of silence for Kneeland just before kickoff. And the Cowboys won.
