Michelle Obama breaks her silence after not attending Trump’s inauguration
Former first lady Michelle Obama has denied rumors of divorcing her husband and said she is reevaluating her public appearance.
Michelle Obama said Americans don’t want a woman to be president, so they shouldn’t count on her to run for the nation’s highest office.
“As we’ve seen in past elections, unfortunately we are not prepared,” President Obama said. “So don’t even see that I’m running, because you’re all lying. You’re not ready to be a woman. You’re not ready yet.”
The former first lady and wife of President Barack Obama made the comments during a conversation with Tracee Ellis Ross on Nov. 14 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music to promote her new book, “The Look.”
“So don’t waste my time,” she continued. “We’ve had a lot of work to do to grow. And, sadly, there are still a lot of men who don’t feel like they should be led by women. And we’ve seen that. I think we still have a lot of growing to do in that regard.”
Although Obama was more popular than her husband during his presidency, he has often said he would not run for president. A 2024 poll taken as Democrats considered leaving President Joe Biden out of office suggested that only Mr. Obama could beat President Donald Trump.
But still, two of the past three Democratic presidential candidates, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Kamala Harris, were women. Both were lost to Trump.
