President Trump responds to Marjorie Taylor Greene’s foreign policy criticism
President Donald Trump said Marjorie Taylor Greene had “lost her way” by questioning his foreign policy priorities.
President Donald Trump has withdrawn his support for longtime ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, saying he will support “the right person” to run against her in the primary.
Greene, a Georgia Republican, has recently criticized President Trump for focusing too much on foreign policy and for calling for an end to the H-1B visa program after Trump defended it.
Greene also supports a measure to release all government records related to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who committed suicide in prison while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. President Trump has criticized the effort.
“All ‘weird’ Marjorie does is complain, complain, complain!” Trump wrote on social media on Nov. 14, announcing he was rescinding his endorsement.
Greene responded on social media by sharing text messages she had sent about Epstein, some of which were apparently addressed to Trump, writing, “Apparently this pushed him over the edge.”
“He’s going after me really hard trying to put on a show to scare all the other Republicans ahead of next week’s vote to release the Epstein file,” Greene said, adding, “It’s really amazing how hard he’s fighting to keep the Epstein file from being released.”
Greene said that although she is one of Trump’s most ardent supporters, “I do not worship or serve Donald Trump.”
Greene gained attention during the government shutdown for criticizing House Republican leadership and voicing the same concerns Democrats have raised about health care costs.
On November 10, she shifted her criticism to President Trump, writing that X “really wants non-stop meetings at WH about domestic policy, not foreign policy or foreign leaders.” Greene was referring to President Trump’s invitation to Syrian President Ahmed al-Shalah to the White House.
As Mr. Trump focuses on foreign policy, including recent trips to Asia and the Middle East, Democrats have focused on concerns about the cost of living, which helped the party win the election earlier this month.
On November 14, President Trump defended his foreign policy moves and blasted Greene for comments aboard Air Force One during a trip to Florida. He then posted a social media message about the possibility of a major challenge.
“I understand that great conservative people are considering a primary for Marjorie in Georgia and that they are tired of her and her antics. If the right person runs, they will have my full and unwavering support,” Trump wrote.
