WASHINGTON – Speaker Mike Johnson said the House will vote next week on a bill that would force the Justice Department to release all files related to the investigation of late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson told reporters on November 12: “When I come back next week, I will vote on the merits of the bill.”

Johnson’s comments came hours after newly sworn-in Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) signed an expulsion petition to force a vote on the bill. She became the 218th signature on the petition, exceeding the threshold needed to prompt a vote at a later date.

“In the meantime, I would like to remind everyone that the (House) Oversight Committee is working around the clock on its own investigation into Epstein,” Johnson added, according to CNN and other media outlets.

The impending vote comes after House Democrats on Nov. 12 released three emails from 2011 to 2019 in which Mr. Epstein named President Donald Trump. In one of the emails, Epstein wrote that Trump “spent many hours at my house” with one of Epstein’s victims. In another article, Epstein said Trump “knew about the girls.”

The White House called the release of the emails by Democrats a “smear” and denied Trump committed any wrongdoing.

As the House returned to session, President Trump publicly warned Republicans in Congress to stay away from Democratic efforts to mandate the release of the Epstein files. In a social media post, he called it a “trap” by Democrats to “distract attention” from other issues such as the government shutdown.

However, his push failed. Four House Republicans left their names on the expulsion petition: Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina, and Rep. Thomas Massey of Kentucky.

“I will never abandon other survivors,” Mace said in a post on X, describing her own experience as a victim of sexual and domestic abuse. “I signed the petition and kept my name.”

Even if the House votes to force the release of the Epstein files, the Senate would also have to sign the bill in order for it to pass. The bill requires President Trump’s signature to become law.
