- The Mamdani Transition Committee also raised more than $517,000 from more than 7,000 donors within 30 hours.
New York City Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani’s transition team announced on November 12 that more than 50,000 candidates have applied to serve in his administration through the resume portal.
“The sheer number of applicants speaks to the excitement at the heart of this movement, inspiring people to believe that the government can put workers first,” Mamdani said in a written statement. “This is a movement built by New Yorkers, for New Yorkers, and our administration will reflect that.”
Mamdani’s transition team said the resume portal at transition2025.com continues to recruit candidates. Mamdani invited applications from “all experience levels,” from seasoned policy professionals to entry-level workers “looking to build a career while supporting affordability.”
The team said it is particularly looking for community organizers, policy experts, government veterans, working New Yorkers and ready-to-work talent from around the country. Mr. Mamdani, a 34-year-old state representative from Queens, won the Nov. 4 mayoral election as a democratic socialist, shocking political and business circles and capturing national attention by promising to lower the cost of living in America’s largest city.
“The 50,000 applicants demonstrate that all levels of government are ready to support this effort,” Elana Leopold, Mamdani’s executive director of transition, said in a written statement. “And these applicants are what makes this movement and the next administration even stronger.”
It was not immediately clear when Mamdani’s government would start recruiting.
Mamdani’s enthusiasm is still bringing in cash.
The news about applicants seeking to work for Mamdani comes less than a week after the transition committee for New York City’s first Muslim mayor-elect announced it had already raised $517,947.30 from more than 7,000 donors in less than 30 hours.
The committee announced that the total number of donors exceeded the first term of the last two mayors, Eric Adams (884 donors) and Bill de Blasio (820 donors) combined.
