Target announced Nov. 11 that it is cutting prices on 3,000 items as shoppers look to stretch their budgets for the holidays.

The cuts come as more shoppers worry about inflation, tariffs and rising food prices. Target announced lower prices on food, beverages and essential items.

“From pantry essentials and baby supplies to household essentials, these price reductions are designed to make everyday shopping more affordable throughout the holiday season,” the retailer said in a press release.

Which products will be discounted?

The price cuts began earlier this month and will continue through December. The retailer has not confirmed the full list of products, but did share a sample.

Thanksgiving meals will be cheaper at Target this year

Target also highlighted Thanksgiving meals for four for less than $20 before tax. USA TODAY previously reported that the retailer said its holiday menu prices are at an all-time low.

“We’re proud that our teams moved quickly to lower prices on thousands of items our guests need most,” said Lisa Roos, Target’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer for food, essentials and beauty, in a press release.

“This is important work that will make a difference for families who are making ends meet during the holidays. It is also work that builds on Target’s tradition of strengthening communities through our business operations.”

Shoppers want value

Neil Saunders, a retail analyst at research and analysis firm GlobalData, said it’s a good time for retailers, including Target, to cut prices.

“Target correctly recognized that value is the watchword for consumers this holiday season, and many will be shopping around for the best bargains and deals,” Sanders told USA TODAY. “With more people than ever comparing prices at retail stores, Target will need to make some markdowns to remain competitive.”

Still, Sanders said, among shoppers, “Target’s price perception is not as sharp as Walmart and other more value-oriented retailers, and these price cuts may not completely improve that.”
