Former Vice President Dick Cheney dies
Dick Cheney, the unapologetic Wyoming Republican who served as vice president under George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009, died on November 3. He was 84 years old and will be remembered for his role as an architect of the war on terror after 9/11 and for his decision to invade Iraq, a war that symbolized a nation-building crisis. For years, Republicans and Democrats alike have viewed him as the most powerful vice president in American history. “It was only under the Cheney administration that questions arose as to whether the vice president was really running things,” said Joel Goldstein, author of “The Modern American Vice President.”
A hungry, hungry black hole far away
This number is astonishing. An object 10 billion light years away with 500 million times the mass of the Sun emits a flash 10 trillion times brighter than the Sun. Astronomers say they are tracking the most powerful and farthest burst of energy ever recorded from a supermassive black hole. This is likely the result of a giant star flying too close to a cosmic rift, being torn apart and “spaghettified” by gravity. Black holes can’t be seen because their gravitational pull is so strong that not even light can escape, but scientists can spot the huge bombardment of radiation left behind by the doomed star.
The disadvantageous situation continues for new home buyers.
First-time homebuyers are finding it harder than ever to obtain a piece of the American dream. Only one in five buyers, or 21%, from June 2024 to June 2025 were first-time buyers, the National Association of Realtors announced on Nov. 4. This is about half the average for housing records dating back to 1981. Potential new homeowners are being displaced by buyers who already have home equity and are able to make all-cash bids, the association said. Similarly, the proportion of all-cash purchases rose to an all-time high of 26%. The average age of first-time homebuyers is also rising, reaching 40 years of age.
Kim Kardashian may have gotten a little satisfied with the universe. First, she said on The Kardashians that the 1969 moon landing “didn’t happen,” and NASA acting administrator Sean Duffy took to social media to prove her right. Now, the mysterious comet 3I/ATLAS, the third visitor ever identified from outside our solar system, has her attention, and she once again took to social media to ask Duffy for some “tea”, or details, about the space visitor. He explained some facts and added, “There are no aliens. There is no threat to life on Earth.”
If you haven’t heard, the Dodgers will win it all.
The LA Dodgers are World Series champions again, but at least one person on the field missed it all. Dodgers veteran Clayton Kershaw was warming up in the bullpen in the bottom of the 11th inning ahead of Game 7, but never saw the game-ending double play hit. It was up to the bullpen coach to break the news to Kershaw, to which Kershaw responded, “Really?” (He was.) Kershaw, 37, is now retired with three World Series rings. “I’ll forever be able to say for the rest of my life, ‘The last game I played was Game 7 of the World Series,'” he said. “You can’t write a script.” − Compiled and written by Robert Abitbol
