Resellers are already looking to capitalize on the success of Starbucks’ Bearista cups.

The 20-ounce “Cold Cup,” part of the coffee house chain’s holiday product line, has become a hot item, quickly gaining popularity within hours of its release on Thursday, Nov. 6.

Shaped like a teddy bear, this beverage container features a lid designed to resemble a green Starbucks stocking cap and comes with an included straw. Retail price was $29.95.

Fans on Starbucks’ Instagram seemed excited about the new product additions ahead of the launch, but that excitement turned to frustration over the lack of stock, which Starbucks says “sold out quickly.”

Customers flooded Starbucks’ social media with comments, revealing their disappointment, with some waking up extra early or walking to multiple locations to get their cups.

“We understand that many customers were excited about the Bearista Cup and apologize for any disappointment,” Starbucks said in a statement. “We have even more exciting products coming this holiday season.”

While the excitement around the launch of the Bearista Cup has subsided, attempts to capitalize on the moment are emerging in the form of third-party listings.

“Really disappointing: Starbucks’ Bearista” cups are up for sale on eBay and Mercari

Holiday-themed beverage containers and other similar products have been listed on eBay and Mercari, much to the dismay of some.

“This campaign is just reselling fuel at exorbitant prices and feeding a market that shouldn’t exist. It’s really unfortunate, but I felt it was important to say this,” one user wrote in the Starbucks comments section.

Original “Bearista” cups are currently listed on both e-commerce platforms for between $100 and $450, while reproductions of “Bearista” cups are also listed for $50 and above.

Dozens of eBay listings reviewed by USA TODAY found that some consumers spent hundreds of dollars to purchase the cups for resale or to source beverage containers.

As consumers continue to wait for the next release and buy from third-party resellers, some are taking matters into their own hands by “DIYing” bear-shaped honey containers into their own cups.

“I have a bear cup at home, in case you didn’t know,” beauty content creator Hashime Kukai wrote in the caption of a video tutorial on Instagram.

Are Starbucks’ Bearista cups sold out?

yes. Starbucks confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY that its Bearista cups are sold out.

“Excitement about our product has exceeded even our highest expectations, and even though we shipped more Bearista Cups to coffeehouses than almost any other product this holiday season, the Bearista Cup and several other products sold out quickly,” the company said.

Starbucks declined to provide additional information, specifically whether and when the cups will be refilled.
