The Food and Drug Administration has announced that Member’s Mark brand nutritional supplement powder “Super Greens” has been recalled amid an ongoing salmonella outbreak.
The FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating reports of salmonella infections in multiple states, including three cases in Virginia. Due to the spread of infection, 11 people became ill and three were hospitalized.
The FDA said its investigation showed that the cause of all illnesses in this outbreak can be traced to a single lot of organic moringa leaf powder from Vallon Farm Direct PVT LTD in Jodhpur, India. Officials said batches of moringa powder were supplied to multiple distributors across the country.
As a result of the investigation, all Member’s Mark “Super Green” nutritional supplement powder products were recalled, regardless of lot code or “best by” date. Sold at Sam’s Club stores nationwide.
The agency indicated that more products may be recalled as it continues to investigate contamination sites.
“Once notified by our supplier, we acted quickly to remove this product from the affected clubs,” Sam’s Club said in a Nov. 3 statement shared with USA TODAY. “The health and safety of our members is our top priority.”
Why was Member’s Mark’s “Super Greens” powder recalled?
The distribution and sale of Member’s Mark branded “Super Greens” powder has been linked to salmonella outbreaks in multiple states. The cause of the illness was linked to a single lot of moringa leaf powder from an India-based manufacturer.

Additional products from other stores may be recalled as the FDA investigation continues. Sam’s Club has discontinued distribution and sales of the product, but some consumers may still have the product in their homes, according to an FDA release.
The agency is encouraging consumers to avoid consuming or offering Member’s Mark’s “Supergreens” dietary supplement powder. Consumers who own a recalled product can either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.
