A new champion was crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
CM Punk became the new World Heavyweight Champion on Saturday, defeating Jey Uso in the main event for the vacant title.
The title became vacant after Seth Rollins vacated the title due to injury.
Jade Cargill also had a successful night, winning her first WWE singles championship. Cargill put together a dominant performance against Tiffany Stratton to win the title.
Now that the title match has been decided, let’s take a look at how everything played out in Saturday night’s main event:
CM Punk defeated Jey Uso twice with the Go to Sleep to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
The crowd remained divided from the start of the match as two fan favorites battled it out in the ring for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship.
CM Punk controlled the match early on, allowing Uso to seize opportunities and gain the upper hand. Uso briefly went up to the top turnbuckle and attempted a second frog splash, but the Chicago native managed to cut him off and hit a suplex off the turnbuckle.
The match ends outside the ring with Uso slamming Punk into the barricade. Punk managed to get back in the ring and countered Uso’s Frog Splash while keeping his knees up.
Punk hits a finishing move on Uso, but it’s not enough to put him away. The two men continued to fight back at each other until Punk was able to eliminate Uso once and for all.
A 16-man tournament will be held to determine John Cena’s final opponent. Cena announced in a video that the tournament field will include talent from RAW, SmackDown, and NXT. He also said that talent not currently affiliated with the company may participate.
John Cena is scheduled to play the final match of his WWE career on December 13th in Washington, D.C.
Cena was with the company for nearly 24 years and set a WWE record by winning 17 world titles. He has won the WWE Championship 14 times and the World Heavyweight Championship three times.
Rusev and Penta move on right after Dominik Mysterio to begin a triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship.
Rusev and Penta eventually quickly stop working together and go after each other.
During the match, Mysterio resorted to the devious tactic of ringing the bell outside the ring to distract Rusev, who was submitting Penta.
Penta managed to obtain a bell hammer and threatened to hit Mysterio with it, but instead hit Rusev.
After throwing Penta out of the ring, Mysterio hit a frog splash off the top turnbuckle and pinned a knocked out Rusev to win the match.
Jade Cargill dominated Tiffany Stratton throughout the majority of the match to win the WWE Women’s Championship.
The new champion performed some physical maneuvers on the already injured Stratton before pinning him in the center of the ring.
This was Cargill’s first singles title in his WWE career. She had previously won the women’s tag team titles twice.
Stratton cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase to win the title on January 3, entering the match as the third-longest reigning WWE Women’s Champion.
Stratton only lost one match during her reign, a non-title match against Stefanie Vachel at Crown Jewel in October.
Cody Rhodes retained the Undisputed WWE Championship after pinning Drew McIntyre in the ring.
McIntyre countered Rose’s finishing move and was successful in redirecting the champion towards the referee.
McIntyre tried to use the title belt as a weapon, but his plan backfired as he tried to grab it and Rose landed a DDT, causing McIntyre’s head to land on top of the title.

Due to Seth Rollins’ injury, a new World Heavyweight Champion will be crowned.
On Raw on Monday, October 20, general manager Adam Pearce confirmed that Rollins will undergo “major surgery” and be sidelined for “a significant amount of time” due to a serious shoulder injury. As a result, Rollins was stripped of the World Heavyweight Championship.
The injury occurred after Rollins’ stablemates Bron Breaker and Bronson Reed suddenly attacked him on October 13.
Pearce said it was because of the surprise attack that Rollins needed surgery, but the injury occurred before that and was reportedly done to keep him off television.
It’s no surprise that fans have been wary of injury news ever since Rollins pulled off the “Run of the Century” after seemingly sustaining a serious foot injury in July, making a spectacular comeback a month later and cashing in on his Money in the Bank contract. But this time the injury appears to be legitimate.
No, Saturday night’s main event will be streamed exclusively on Peacock. WWE and Peacock have announced a new multi-year agreement that will move Saturday Night Main Event from NBC to Peacock.
It’s been almost a full year since WWE brought back its Saturday Night Main Event, which was meant to put on a WrestleMania-worthy match for a national audience.
In the 1980s, as wrestling continued to grow across the United States as WWE strengthened its position as America’s top company, Saturday Night Main Event was a way to showcase WWE’s biggest stars taking to the ring against each other. Usually hosted on NBC, the show was a success from 1985 to 1992, giving millions of people a unique opportunity to watch the high-profile games.
After a hiatus, it was revived in 2006 and hosted several more shows over the next few years. It will be held again in December 2024, and it looks like WWE is looking to make it a regular occurrence. However, the show is currently streaming exclusively on Peacock.
The next Saturday Night Main Event will be held on December 13th. It will be a big event as it will be John Cena’s last show and his retirement match.
