President Trump reveals plans to renovate Lincoln Bathroom at White House
In addition to the upcoming ballroom, President Trump unveiled one of the latest renovations to the White House, the Lincoln Bathroom.
President Donald Trump isn’t just doing social gatherings. He also does the toilet.
President Trump, who is often referred to as an “architect at heart” by aides, unveiled a lavish renovation of the White House’s Lincoln Bathroom with a marble and gold theme.
“I did it with black and white statuary marble,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Oct. 31, showing off his handiwork along with 25 before-and-after photos.
To be exact, there is one “before” and 24 “after”.
This restroom is for guest use and is not President Trump’s personal restroom. The statuary marble is a premium pure white Italian marble with dramatic gray veins. Traditionally used in sculptures and statues such as Michelangelo’s David, it is now increasingly being used for countertops and flooring.
“I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House, which was renovated in the 1940s in an Art Deco green tile style that was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln era,” he wrote, adding that the choice of marble was “very appropriate.”
The White House did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s questions about the cost of the renovations.
There was one detail he didn’t mention, but it was clear from the photo. The metal accents and accessories are all gold, his color of choice when it comes to decor.
The shower head, trash can, light scone, vase, shower door frame, hooks and towel rack are all gold plated, as is the vent cover.
President Trump, who said he considers himself an “important designer,” wrote, “This is so appropriate for Abraham Lincoln’s time, in fact, it may have been the marble that was originally there!”
Mr. Trump has had a long career in real estate and has put his designs on everything in the White House, from the presidential portraits, military flags and gold ornaments that decorate the Oval Office to the paving of the Rose Garden lawn. He is currently building a 90,000-square-foot ballroom, which will involve demolishing the east wing, drawing scorn from critics.
At a dinner held on Oct. 15 to thank donors for the construction of the ballroom, President Trump mused about the style of “Abe Lincoln.”
“There’s a little bit like Lincoln’s bedroom. The bathroom was done by the Truman family,” he said, referring to former President Harry Truman’s restoration of the White House in the 1940s. “And it’s done with green tiles, and it’s done in a style that’s not exactly Abe Lincoln. That’s not a good style.”
“It’s actually Art Deco, and Art Deco, you know, doesn’t go with 1850 or the Civil War. But what’s actually used is statuary marble, so I ripped it up and made a bathroom,” he said. “It’s absolutely gorgeous and completely in keeping with the atmosphere of the time, because Lincoln’s bedroom is incredible for anyone who sees it.”
