The Senate confirmation hearing for President Donald Trump’s controversial nominee for U.S. surgeon general has been postponed because the woman went into labor shortly before the scheduled meeting, according to a spokesperson for the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.

The postponement was decided hours before candidate Casey Means’ virtual appearance.

Means, 38, is a Stanford University-educated physician and New York Times bestselling author with a large online following. Means, an ally of Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has gained influencer status in certain online wellness spaces with a focus on metabolic health and chronic disease prevention.

President Donald Trump announced on May 7 that he would nominate her as Surgeon General. Some of her positions have drawn criticism for her nomination, including past comments expressing skepticism about vaccines, the New York Times reported.

Means graduated from Stanford Medical School and continued his surgical training as an otolaryngologist (often referred to as an otolaryngologist). However, she left the training program in 2018, according to her LinkedIn profile. Her medical license expired in 2019.

She went on to found Levels, a technology company that monitors blood sugar levels.
