This was Swift’s first year of eligibility. Her debut single, “Tim McGraw,” was released in June 2006, just barely meeting the induction deadline of June 2026.
Taylor Swift may soon show off new accomplishments with “Wi$h Li$t.”
The 35-year-old showgirl has been officially nominated for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She will join LL Cool J, David Byrne, Sarah McLachlan, Pink, Kenny Loggins, Gene Simmons and KISS’ Paul Stanley in the 2026 poll, which will be announced on Thursday, October 23.
Other nominees include Charlotte Caffey, Kathy Valentine and Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Go’s, Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings of The Guess Who, and America’s Jerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell.
This is Swift’s first nomination.
Songwriters with notable music catalogs are eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame only 20 years after the song’s first commercial release. Swift’s first single, “Tim McGraw,” was released in June 2006, just barely meeting the induction deadline of June 2026.
Three songwriters will be selected from each category. The ceremony is scheduled to take place in New York City in 2026.
In 2010, Swift received the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Hal David Starlight Award, an honor given to young songwriters. She becomes the first person to earn both Starlight and regular membership.
Swift released her latest record, The Life of a Showgirl, on October 3rd, and recently surpassed 4 million album sales. She also had a major career accomplishment this year, buying back her master recordings. Since handing over an undisclosed sum to a private equity firm that bought the master rights to her first six albums, she now owns every aspect of her career, including videos, concert films, art, photography and unreleased material.
Voters have until Dec. 4 to vote for up to three candidates in both categories. To qualify as a voter, an individual must be a music industry professional or a member of a performing rights organization such as ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC.
