Mr. Vance is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit.
WASHINGTON — Vice President J.D. Vance heads to Israel on Monday to urge implementation of the second phase of a fragile peace deal brokered by the Trump administration that halted the war in Gaza.
Vance will be accompanied by Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy who is the lead negotiator on the White House’s 20-point peace plan. The two men are scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to people familiar with the trip.
The visit was first reported by Israeli media.
The visit comes amid growing concerns that Hamas is beginning to regain control of the enclave, following reports of public executions and violence while holding the bodies of hostages the militant group had previously agreed to hand over.
Hamas returned nine of the 28 bodies of dead hostages after Israel threatened to halve the number of aid trucks allowed into Gaza.
This is a developing story.
