Jeep simplifies 2026 Grand Wagoneer lineup with extended range EV option

  • Jeep announced the 2026 Grand Wagoneer on October 14, 2025.
  • The new model will simplify the naming convention that had been confusing to buyers, eliminating the “Wagoneer” badge and calling all three-row SUVs the “Grand Wagoneer” name.
  • In addition to the new Grand Wagoneer lineup (with options and trim levels in the $30,000 range), Jeep is also rolling out an extended range of 647 horsepower powertrains for the Grand Wagoneer.

For the 2026 model year, Jeep is clearing up customer confusion about the Grand Wagoneer name and offering a powertrain never used by the brand before.

When Jeep brought back the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer names at the same time in 2022, customers were confused, Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf said at an Oct. 7 preview event for the cars.

“Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, what’s the difference? Is Wagoneer a sub-brand? Is it Jeep? What’s going on? We’ve confused buyers, we’ve confused dealers,” Broderdorf said while announcing that the brand is simplifying the Wagoneer class of vehicles. “It’s being fixed.”

Now, with the 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, the Jeep brand is aiming to make it clear that, yes, the Grand Wagoneer is the brand’s flagship, luxury three-row SUV — and yes, it’s a Jeep, and the Jeep badge on the vehicle will proclaim it as such.

Part of the confusion for consumers is that previous Grand Wagoneers did not have “Jeep” written in a prominent place on the vehicle. Jeep sold two models under the Wagoneer name (Grand Wagoneer and Standard Wagoneer), both of which were the same size and similar in appearance, with the Grand Wagoneer being more luxurious.

One name, Grand Wagoneer, will now cover all of the brand’s three-row SUVs, and there’s more than $30,000 between the 2026 Grand Wagoneer’s entry-level price and top trim level. Pricing for the base 4×2 Grand Wagoneer starts at $62,125. The top trim level, the Summit Obsidian, comes in at $96,390, second only to crosstown competitors like the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade.

Regardless of price, all Grand Wagoneers, with one exception, are powered by Stellantis’ new 3-liter “Hurricane” twin-turbo six-cylinder engine. For the first time, Jeep plans to release an extended-range powertrain for the Grand Wagoneer at a later date, but pricing has not yet been announced.

hybrid? No, Reeve.

Jeep’s foray into extended range powertrains follows sister company Ram Trucks, which will soon launch the Ram 1500, which also has extended range.

Extended range electric vehicles (REEVs) have both a gasoline-powered engine and a battery pack, as opposed to battery-powered electric vehicles. But it’s not exactly a hybrid.

REEV uses power from the battery to propel the vehicle forward. It realizes driving just like an EV. However, the battery is powered by an internal combustion engine, acts like a generator, and runs on gasoline. No need to plug in to charge the battery (although it is optional). Just fill up the tank and drive your car.

REEV typically provides a high efficiency return on fuel costs. Jeep expects high performance from the REEV Grand Wagoneer, reporting 647 horsepower and a 0-60 time of just 5.0 seconds, calling it “the fastest and most powerful Grand Wagoneer ever” and claiming a total range of “more than 500 miles.”

The Warren Truck Assembly Plant, staffed by UAW Local 140, will assemble both REEV and internal combustion versions of the 2026 Grand Wagoneer.
