Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton dies at age 79
Diane Keaton, the Oscar-winning actress who starred in “Annie Hall” and “The Godfather,” has died at the age of 79, People and the New York Times have reported.
Palm Springs was a haven for the late Diane Keaton.
The Academy Award-winning actress, who died of pneumonia on October 11 at the age of 79, spent several months in California’s Coachella Valley after her Los Angeles home was damaged by wildfires in January.
Songwriter Carol Bayer Sager recently told People that when she met Keaton a few weeks before her death, after Keaton returned from Palm Springs, she was “astounded at how much weight she had lost.”
Sager, who co-wrote Keaton’s only solo single, “First Christmas,” told the magazine that Keaton had been seeing his friends less recently because he was spending a lot of time in the desert.
Nyla Doering, former public relations manager for The Living Desert Zoo and Garden, told The Desert Sun, part of the USA TODAY Network, that Keaton’s involvement with the desert goes back even further. While Doering was at the zoo from 2011 to 2013, Keaton was a “friend of the park” and frequently stopped by the zoo with her daughter.
She was always disguised under her signature floppy hat and oversized sunglasses, blending in with visitors while enjoying the animals up close, Doering said.
“We know she enjoyed feeding the giraffes, and we heard she even ‘adopted’ a baby warthog one season. We don’t know if any of our guests recognized her, and we never publicized her visit,” Doering added. “The Living Desert is a special, peaceful place to be in nature and interact with animals, and that’s what we wanted to give her. Giving her that space was a testament to how much the park staff, including myself, loved her. She was one of a kind.”

Her prestigious career also included appearances in “The First Wives Club,” “Manhattan,” and “Annie Hall,” for which she won an Oscar for Best Actress in 1978. Known for his blend of emotion and quirky likability, Keaton gained fans for his performances in comedies such as 1980’s “Baby Boom,” 1990’s “Father of the Bride” and 1990’s “Something’s Gotta Give.” 2000s.
Born in Los Angeles on January 5, 1946, she grew up as Diane Hall, the eldest of four children, before choosing a new last name. Mr. Hall had already been acquired by someone else in Actors’ Equity.
She studied theater at Santa Ana College in Orange County and briefly continued her education at the University of Southern California before leaving LA to enroll at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Drama in New York City.

A copy of Keaton’s death certificate obtained by USA TODAY on Oct. 16 indicated that the “immediate cause” of her death was primary bacterial pneumonia. Several days passed between her onset of illness and her death at a hospital in Santa Monica, California. No other significant factors were cited in Keaton’s death.
The “First Wives Club” actress was cremated on October 14th.
