SKIMS’ $48 face wrap sparks debate over its necessity
Kim Kardashian’s shapewear line, SKIMS, launched a $48 face shaper that drew criticism from some cosmetic surgeons.
Skims is back with an eye-catching new thong line.
Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand, known for its nipple bras, sculpting face wraps, and butt-enhancing padded shorts, is back with a faux-hair microstring thong. The company dropped its “bold” new panties in a 1970s-inspired campaign with a mock dating show titled “Does the carpet match the curtains?” Refers to the pubic hair-like appearance of a thong.
“With these iconic new panties, you can turn your carpet any color you want!” Skims wrote in a press release.
There are 12 faux hair and braid color variations with straight and curly textures, and the braids are currently sold out on the Skims website. It’s unclear how long they were in stock, but the concept generated a lot of buzz.
Online reactions to the product drop showed that people were confused, with one X user writing: “Who spends $32 on a fake pubic thong?!!! (I wish I could just grow my hair out). I bet the people at Skims are running out of ideas ’cause this is ridiculous.”

The fake hair thong follows the release of the controversial face wrap series. Featuring “collagen threads for ultra-soft support,” the wrap is targeted at people with elaborate morning undressing habits. Basically, the idea is to keep tension in your face and “grasp” your chin. The campaign was quickly met with backlash and confusion from doctors who said it was ineffective.
In September, Skims launched its long-awaited collaboration with Nike, NikeSkims, unveiling the first three major activewear collections and four seasonal collections, featuring pieces designed for everything from strength training and everyday training to lounging and running errands. The campaign featured Kardashian and athletes Serena Williams, Shakari Richardson, Jordan Childs and Chloe Kim.
