We are in a tough job market. Employers added just 22,000 jobs in August, according to the latest federal jobs report. (The September report was delayed due to the government shutdown.)

However, some sectors are still hiring.

Supermarkets are doing more cooking

When Sidney Martin is looking for a quick and affordable dinner for her mother and daughter, she often stops at the grocery store for ready-made meals. It could be rotisserie chicken, pot pie, or stuffed salmon, and she makes the garnishes at home.

More shoppers are buying prepared food from grocery store delis to feed their families, according to a new report. Here’s what’s driving the trend:
