Justin Fields and the Jets are still looking for answers even at 0-6.
Justin Fields and the Jets fall to 0-6 and the struggles continue as the team looks for answers and ways to turn their season around.
Former New York Jets center Nick Mangold announced in a statement shared to social media on Tuesday that he is in need of a kidney transplant.
“This is not an easy message to share, but I want to be open about what’s going on with me and my health,” Mangold wrote. “In 2006, I was diagnosed with a genetic abnormality that leads to chronic kidney disease. After a tough summer, I am on dialysis in hopes of receiving a kidney transplant.”
“I knew this day would come someday, but I wished I had more time,” he added.
Mangold played all 11 NFL seasons with the Jets after being selected in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft. The Ohio State product started 164 games, was named first-team All-Pro twice and was selected to seven Pro Bowls before retiring after the 2016 NFL season.
Mangold, who has a wife and four children, said in a statement that he has no family members who can donate a kidney at this time. That’s why the 41-year-old reached out to the Jets and Ohio State communities for potential help.
Mangold, who has battled kidney disease, credits her family with being her “rock.”
“This situation reminded me how lucky I am to have such amazing family, friends, and community behind me,” he wrote.
And Mangold admitted he is “remaining positive” despite the “tough stretch” and hopes his health improves soon.
“Looking forward to better days and returning to full fitness soon,” Mangold wrote. “See you soon at MetLife Stadium & The Shoe.”
