Carrie Elizabeth Romney, the sister-in-law of former Sen. Mitt Romney, died on October 10 in California, officials said. She was 64 years old.

Carrie Romney was found dead in the Town Center Drive area of ​​Santa Clarita around 9 p.m. local time on October 10, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The area where investigators said Carrie Romney was found is adjacent to a shopping mall. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, which is determining the cause of death, says Carrie Romney died on the street.

“Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought so much warmth and love to our lives,” the Romney family said in a statement to People magazine. “We ask for your privacy during this difficult time.”

Carrie Romney’s cause of death is under investigation, authorities say

According to Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office records, Carrie Romney’s cause of death has been deferred, meaning additional investigation is pending.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also said the investigation is ongoing.

Carey Romney was married to Scott Romney

Carey Romney was married to Mitt Romney’s brother, G. Scott Romney.

Mitt Romney served as Utah’s senator from 2019 to 2025. He is a former governor of Massachusetts and a Republican candidate in the 2012 presidential election.

Mitt and Scott Romney are the sons of the late George W. Romney, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and Governor of Michigan.
