Melania Trump leads reunification effort for Ukrainian children
President Melania Trump confirmed that eight Ukrainian children have been reunited with their families in Russia in the past 24 hours.
Melania Trump is extremely private and unknown to anyone, but a much-talked-about documentary that is expected to shed light on Melania Trump’s quiet life has reached its official release date.
The film, aptly titled “Melania,” will be released in theaters on January 30 next year, a year after her husband Donald Trump was sworn into office for the second time, and will later be released on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service.
“‘Melania’ provides unprecedented access to the 20 days leading up to the 2025 presidential inauguration through the eyes of the first lady-elect,” the official description reads. “Step into Melania Trump’s world as she adjusts her inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and returns to public life with her family.”
“With exclusive footage of important meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments, ‘Melania’ marks Mrs. Trump’s return to one of the world’s most powerful roles,” the logline continued.
Trump is listed as an executive producer on the project, which is being overseen by embattled Hollywood mogul Brett Ratner, meaning he will likely receive a cut of the $40 million Amazon paid in licensing fees.
Ratner’s return to Hollywood comes after he was first publicly accused of sexual harassment and rape in 2017 by multiple women, including actress Olivia Munn.
Melania Trump made a rare appearance at the White House this week
During her husband’s second term, Trump has largely stayed out of the spotlight.
However, in an unusual speech at the White House on October 10, President Trump said that Vladimir Putin’s government had agreed to return Ukrainian children who were taken to Russia as minors and turned 18.
Trump has held relatively few White House events since her husband returned to office, and her decision to speak out about her missing children, who she says are “residing” or “evacuated” to Russia, was a notable approach for a first lady who avoids public appearances.
President Trump said he aims to facilitate regular child and family reunification until all children are returned home. “As the first lady, this is an important initiative for me,” Trump said. “It is built on common purpose and lasting impact.”
Trump has kept a light calendar, but he has chosen to attend select events with the president, including his second inaugural celebration, a state visit to the British royal family, a Fourth of July celebration, Pope Francis’ funeral, the White House Easter Egg Roll, a visit to Texas flood victims and the administration’s multimillion-dollar festival and parade celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.
