Monday, October 13th, has the unique distinction of being the day on which two holidays are celebrated this year: Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day.
Columbus Day, celebrated on the second Monday in October, has been a federal holiday since 1892, with parades across the country highlighting Italian American heritage and pride, according to Smithsonian Magazine.
Following years of criticism of Christopher Columbus’ treatment of Native Americans, former President Joe Biden issued his first presidential proclamation on Indigenous Peoples Day 2021, the same day as Columbus Day. Although it is not recognized as a federal holiday, it is recognized as a holiday in some cities and states.

According to the U.S. Postal Service website, all post offices will be closed to retail transactions on Monday, October 13th, and regular residential and business mail deliveries will not be made.

Capital One, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, PNC, Trust, Citibank and JPMorgan Chase branches will close on Oct. 13, the companies told USA TODAY. Capital One Cafe will remain open.

UPS pickup and delivery services will be available starting October 13, and UPS Store locations will remain open, according to the company’s website.
