This is a new type of Marvel team-up. Actors Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland are collaborating off-camera on their own coffee and non-alcoholic beer brands.

Of course, the duo has previously teamed up as Iron Man and Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and The Avengers. If the two do face off in a future Marvel movie, it’s likely that they’ll be rivals against each other in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, with Downey playing the villainous Doctor Doom.

Downy has confirmed to Holland a collaboration between its own brands, Downy Happy Coffee and Holland’s BERO Non-Alcoholic Beer, and two new limited edition beverages: Happy Eternal Hooptimist Ground Coffee, roasted to exude ale-like pine and citrus aromas, and BERO Coffee Draft, a coffee-flavored stout with less than 0.5% ABV. Both are now available at Target stores and Target.com, as well as the Happy Coffee and Bero websites, the companies announced.

Tom Holland: Non-alcoholic beer and coffee taste ‘delicious’

Holland, an avid coffee drinker who launched a line of non-alcoholic beers nearly a year ago, discussed “new flavors and new styles” a few months ago, and said, “When I was drinking, one of my favorite drinks was a pint of Guinness,” Downey recalled in a recent video chat with USA TODAY. (Long before founding BERO, Holland talked about his journey to sobriety, which began in 2022.)

Later, at home, Holland poured himself a BERO, “I put a shot of Robert’s coffee in it, and it was out of this world,” Holland said. “I think the coffee brings a really nice nutty flavor.”

Just like on screen, the two actors quickly develop a rapport. When Downey participated, he first wanted to know how Holland felt after suffering a mild concussion on the set of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which is scheduled to be released on July 31, 2026.

Logging in from a London hotel, Holland tells Downey that he has been back on set for a few days and is doing well.

“The movie is going very well. The director (Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’) is amazing,” he previously told USA TODAY. “We have some really exciting new cast members who are bringing these new characters to life. It’s just amazing.”

Downey, who co-founded Happy Coffee with entrepreneur Craig Dubitsky in January 2024, said the two brands are working well because each makes sense for him. “Tom is strangely a natural businessman,” he said, adding that Mr. Holland’s “insight is pretty strong” and that he built his company “really well.”

“I think it was organic,” Downey told Holland. “I mean, I believe[Coffee]was happy with me, so it’s very authentic about who you are.”

Downey said the collaboration also targets “a whole generation, the (Dutch) generation that thinks alcohol is a little bit overrated.”

BERO is “kind of serving this emerging market,” Downey said, as a recent Gallup poll found fewer U.S. adults say they consume alcohol, to an all-time low of 54%.

Charitable Giving: Downy’s Happy Coffee and Dutch BERO

Mental health is a major cause for Downey, who spoke about his journey to sobriety on Oprah in 2004. The National Alliance on Mental Illness is an equity partner in Happy Coffee, Downey said. Happy Coffee products, from whole bean coffee to ready-to-drink canned coffee beverages, also feature a QR code to connect consumers to the NAMI helpline.

There’s also a philanthropic side to Holland’s business, with a portion of the proceeds going to Brothers Trust, a fundraising organization founded in 2017 by his family, which includes his parents Nicky and Dominic Holland and his three siblings. One of the projects supported by the organization, Story Book Dads, records incarcerated fathers reading bedtime stories to children on CDs and DVDs. “It helps them maintain relationships with the kids outside,” Holland said.

Of collaborating with Downey, Holland said, “There is nothing more incredibly rewarding than teaming up with a friend that I respect and admire. I’m also extremely grateful for how the last 10 years of my career have worked out…We were able to do another truly amazing thing together.”

In response, Downey said, “You know, this is so weird. This just occurred to me. If I hadn’t spent 10 years watching someone work like a clean machine that inspires you, we might not even be on Zoom today. Actually, I should be an equity partner in BERO, but let’s put that aside.”
