Comedian Rosie O’Donnell has concluded the curtain on a notorious 2007 “The View” argument with Republican television personality Elizabeth Hasselbeck.

While appearing on the “Ricky Lee, Tim & Joel” show, the former talk show host, 63, claimed that the producer of “The View” was behind the intense interactions with the former co-host. She mentioned the use of split screen, which she believes indicates that he planned to have a fierce argument with the two of them.

“I think it was prepared, so everything was set up,” O’Donnell said. “Our producers aren’t the kind of person who’s flexible. He wasn’t the kind of person who says he’s going to split screen.”

During the May 23, 2007 episode of the show, political debate between O’Donnell and a former “Survivor” contestant about the US military stationed in Iraq escalated to a fierce personal altercation.

Soon, the two continued screaming at each other for about ten minutes. O’Donnell accused Hasselbeck of not defending himself against the comedian’s claim that it was non-Americans who opposed military advancement, but said Hasselbeck was giving O’Donnell the opportunity to defend him.

The two former friends found themselves in a sly insulting each other during the broadcast, and two days later, ABC admitted that O’Donnell had asked for a termination of the contract.

“I was leaning backwards for that woman, and she was on national television to get me on whether I was patriotic,” O’Donnell said. “I was on a five-woman basketball team and it felt like one of them kept stumbling on my way to the hoop.”

USA TODAY reached out to representatives of The View and Hasselbeck for comment.

Rosie O’Donnell will soon become an Irish citizen

Comedian Rosie O’Donnell said he is preparing to become an Irish citizen after becoming an exile from the United States, citing political situation during President Donald Trump’s second term.

Earlier this year, Odong announced that he had moved to a European country after Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, unable to withstand life in the US. In a recent interview with the Australian Daily Telegraph, she confided about her “self-imposed” political asylum.

“My grandparents are from Ireland so I am applying for Irish citizenship and am about to get approved. That’s all I need. It’s good to get Irish citizenship, especially as Trump continues to threaten me with stripping of Irish citizenship,” she told the media.

“What a wonderful news for America!” White House Press Secretary Abigail Jackson said in a statement to USA TODAY.

O’Donnell, a New York-born child and born in New York, has spoken out about the president’s previous threat of stripping his US citizenship. In a September 3 post on Truth Social, President Trump said the administration is considering stripping O’Donnell of citizenship, adding, “She’s not a great American and, in my opinion, she’s not the ability to do so!”
