The Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers will face off in Game 1 of the Five American League Division Series, held at T-Mobile Park on Saturday, October 4th.
The Mariners won their first Al West title since 2001 and said goodbye to ALDS, but the Tigers had to compete in the wildcard series after blowing a big lead at AL Central and losing the divisional crown.
“There’s a sense of urgency that can only be achieved in October,” said Aji Hinch, the Tigers’ manager who led the Astros to the World Series title in 2017.
Troy Melton (3-2, 2.76 ERA) will start for the Tigers with Mariners right-handed George Kirby (10-8, 4.21 ERA) opening the mound in Seattle.

Detroit’s Reilly Bar Rafael Montero clinged to a one-run lead at the top of the seventh and issued a leadoff walk to Landia Rozarena, followed by Callarie and Giulio Rodriguez’s consecutive singles. Montero was replaced because he couldn’t retire from batter, and Tyler Holton led Josh Naylor to the position of double play before tying the game alongside Jorge Polanco.
Detroit finally got on the board from George Kirby to Kelly Carpenter’s 2-run homer at the fifth top, winning 2-1 at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park.
Carpenter has made his career with 26 home runs in the regular season.
Julio Rodriguez hit a solo homer from Troy Melton at the fourth bottom to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead.
Rodriguez scored 32 home runs, 95 RBIs and 30 steals in the regular season.
Gleyber Torres started the third top with George Kirby’s double, but the right-hander lined up at center with Kerry Carpenter and attacked Riley Greene. The Tigers are already 6-6, with the runners in scoring position.
Colt Keith singled, and Dillon Dingler walked to start the second-highest with George Kirby, but the right-hander hit Zack McKinsley to induce Javier Baez’s groundout and squeal Parker Meadows to finish the threat second and third on the runner.
