General Mills said three Missouri facilities will be closed as part of an effort to improve the company’s supply chain.

The Minnesota-based company will close its pizza crust manufacturing facility in St. Charles, Missouri, and two pet food plants in Joplin, Missouri, under the “enhancing supply chain competitiveness” initiative, according to a report filed September 25th.

Pet Food Plant was acquired in 2024 with the purchase of the White Bridge Pet brand, the company said. The TNT pizza crust facility was purchased in 2022, General Mills spokesperson Mollie Wulff said in a statement provided to USA Today.

“Production at these locations will be shifted to other facilities,” Wulff said.

Production at the Joplin facility is expected to end by July 2026, with the St. Charles plant coming to an end by the end of June 2026, the company said.

General Mills said employees at the Joplin location will have employment opportunities at other pet food plants and will work with employees at the St. Charles plant to explore employment within the company.

Missouri closures part of a massive restructuring

The number of employees affected by the closure is unknown. As of October 1st, no warning law notices had been posted on the Missouri Higher Education Workforce Development website.

In May, General Mills approved the “Multi-Year Global Change Initiative” and submitted that it expects to spend around $70 million primarily on retirement costs.

“The news represents a tough choice, but it is necessary to fund product innovation, create attractive consumer value and ensure that General Mills is successful in the long term,” the company said in a statement.
