Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban split 19 years later
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban split together after 19 years, according to TMZ. They share two daughters.
For most singers, switching lyrics is a trade trick. However, Keith Urban’s recent musical revisions take on new light following a split from his wife, Nicole Kidman.
The re-engraved concert clip of the Grammy-winning country singer, who performs his 2016 hit “The Fighter,” inspired by his relationship with Kidman, shows that Urban appears to have tweaked one of the song’s lyrics and removed the homage to Kidman.
In a clip shared by Urban’s utility player and country singer Maggie Beau in an Instagram post on September 27, Urban said, “When Trina reaches you, I’m ‘Trina’, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player.”
Filmed from Urban’s ninth album, “Ripcord,” “The Fighter,” was released in collaboration with fellow superstar Carrie Underwood. The song peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, and was later recognized as triple platinum.
Urban, who had been married to Kidman for nearly 20 years, opened on Billboard in a 2017 interview about how Kidman inspired his love song.
“It was all from a conversation early in our relationship with my wife and I. When things get tougher, I need to hold her tighter and try to take care of her,” Urban, 57 told the outlet. “This song is about wanting to heal someone, wanting to look after someone, protecting someone. That really seems like a vow in many ways.”
Keith Urban’s lyrics have been criticized during Nicole Kidman’s divorce
Urban’s lyrical switchers don’t hit the right chords.
Following news of Urban and Kidman’s divorce filing, fans have visited social media to criticize the alternative lyrics and suggest that they have denied Urban’s relationship with the Oscar-winning actress.
“Nicole is better,” wrote Instagram user @loosaratops, who commented, “Show me some Class Keith to make it better!”
“It’s so scary to do this to a song inspired by his wife,” @Smjake wrote. “It’s the ultimate quick.”
“Wow, that song was made for Nicole. He tells me what he really is for him to do that,” commented @femmigirz. “I just don’t like that.”
Why did Nicole Kidman’s Keith Urban get divorced?
Kidman filed for divorce from Urban on Tuesday, September 30, according to records from the Davidson County Circuit Court in Tennessee reviewed by USA Today. The filing came a day after news of the couple’s separation was released.
A Kidman complaint, signed on Monday, September 29th and signed by The Nashville Tennessean of the USA Today Network, confirmed that the two live in separate Nashville homes amid the split. The basis for divorce is “irreconcilable differences,” writes Kidman, 58.
Kidman also asked the court to name him “the primary housing parent for minor children.” Urban and Kidman are the parents of two daughters, Rose, 17, Sunday, and Faith Margaret, 14.
USA Today reached both Kidman and Urban representatives for comment.
Kidman and Urban first met in Los Angeles in 2005 and married more than a year later in Sydney, Australia. They celebrated their 19th anniversary on June 25th, 2025.
