How and why government closures happen this week

Date:

The federal government could be shut down on October 1 after President Donald Trump and Congressional leaders were postponed to 8:24pm on September 30th, after President Donald Trump and Congressional leaders failed to reach a financial compromise.

The senator would have rejected two deals, one from Democrats and the other from Republicans, which would have prevented the closure. The Republican plan kept the government open until November 21, failing with 55-45 votes, USA Today reported. You need at least 60 votes to pass.

The federal government will run out of money at the end of the fiscal year unless Congress members agree to overcome partisan differences and pass the funding bill.

The federal government has been closed 21 times in a total of 161 days since 1976. Pending closures are primarily related to medical costs.

Democrats want to prevent Obamacare subsidies from reverse cutting back on Medicaid funding enacted by Trump’s tax.

When did the government close?

The government shutdown took place between seven chairs. President Jimmy Carter spent 56 and 56 days from 1977 to 1979. Trump has the longest consecutive day in 2019, 34 days.

This is an average of nearly 8 days per shutdown. Three closures took place during Trump’s first term, one of which lasted only a few hours.

What happens during the government shutdown?

Like any household or business, the federal government must pay the bill. If Congress cannot agree on how to make money appropriate for funding, the non-essential sector of the government will be shut down. Funds expire on September 30th.

In past closures, hundreds of thousands of federal workers, those deemed unimportant, have been sent home or sent home unpaid. When they returned they were refunded.

However, the Office of Management and Budget has directed federal agencies to prepare for large layoffs, not just temporary meals.

Employees, classified as essential to key operations in the defense, energy, agriculture and other sectors, will continue to work without pay. You will be refunded when the shutdown ends.
