Trump suggested that another former FBI director, Christopher Ray, could investigate in addition to Comey.
Former FBI Director James Comey was charged by a large ju trial
The indictment comes after President Trump called on Attorney General Pam Bondy to call for charges.
WASHINGTON – Politicians and legal experts continued to debate the charges of former FBI director James Comey, raising questions about whether he would be convicted, and anticipating accusations against others who investigated President Donald Trump.
After President Trump urged Attorney General Pam Bondy to pursue the charges, Comey was charged on September 25th after allegedly lying to Congress and obstructing lawmakers. But even conservative legal experts questioned whether the charges would stick.
The indictment has led to a sharp political gap between Democrats and Republicans saying that justice will win, calling politically motivated cases. It is expected that more charges will be filed against Democrats and Republicans who investigated Trump.
“I have no faith in Donald Trump’s judicial system,” Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on September 28th.
Senate majority leader John Thune, R-South Dakota, called the allegations seriously, saying Comey would spend the day in court.
“The court will have to decide this,” Thune told “Meet the Press” on September 28th.
Do you stick accusations against Comey?
Several conservative columnists, Kim Strassell of the Wall Street Journal and Andrew McCarthy of the National Review, have raised questions to Fox News about whether Comey will be found guilty.
Strassell said in Fox’s “American Newsroom” on September 26th. “This is a potentially problematic prosecution.”
Comey was accused of lying on September 30, 2020 when asked by Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas.
Former federal prosecutor McCarthy said former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe has allowed the information to be leaked and then communicated to Comey.
“I don’t think this case will go to trial,” McCarthy said. “This case does not concern Russia Gate and all the abuse. Can it prove the charges at the four corners of the charge?”
McCabe told CNN’s “Confederation Status” on September 28 that he had not been interviewed for the incident. He called for a “strange” submission fee a few years after the three-year investigation was over.
Trump, Vance says more charges can be made against Democrats
Trump told reporters September 26 that he hopes for more charges against those who investigated or criticized him.
“It’s not a list, but I think there are others,” Trump said when asked who will be the next person on his “retaliation” list.
“I mean, they’re corrupt,” Trump added. “These were corrupt and radical left Democrats, but Comey was essentially worse than Democrats. You’d say Democrats are better than Comey. But no, there’s someone else.”
The Justice Department is already investigating John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser. Democrat New York Attorney General Letitia James. Senator Adam Schiff, D-California.
Vice President JD Vance denied that politics was pushing for the investigation, but said more charges were expected.
“Well, there will be more charges coming over the next three and a half years of the Trump administration. We’re always trying to push the law forward to things like this and facts of the case, not politically motivated,” Vance told Fox News Sunday on September 28th.
Trump says former FBI director Ray could be investigated
Trump told NBC News on September 28 that the appointment of Comey’s successor, former FBI director Christopher Ray, in his first term, was also under investigation into “inappropriate” behaviour.
“I imagine. I do. I do. I think they do,” Trump said.
Trump said Ray “had a terrible job, but we just learned about it.” Trump’s comments “probably serve as an agitator and a rebelist” after a social media post on September 27th claimed that the FBI secretly placed many agents in the crowd during the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.
Justice Department inspector Michael Horowitz previously investigated and determined that there was “no evidence” that FBI undercover agents were at the Capitol. The report found three confidential sources were among the crowd.
“Christopher Ray, then director of the FBI, explains some things to do,” Trump said on social media. “It’s two in a row, Comey and Ray, who caught lying in our great country.”
Trump charged nearly 1,600 people in the January 6 riots, including dozens convicted of rebellion and assault police in the January 6 riots.
Ray has not publicly responded to Trump’s latest complaints. However, Ray denied that FBI agents or sources coordinated the violence at a November 2023 House hearing.
“No, there was no violence organized by FBI sources or agents,” Ray said.
