We returned on Monday news:

Europe wins an unruly Ryder Cup

Team USA lost to Europe in the Ryder Cup on Sunday, making the Europeans the first team since 2012 to win the tournament in foreign soil.

The drama was a course par: The atmosphere at this year’s Ryder Cup was rough and sometimes combative, and at one point, urged team’s European Rory McIlroy to curse the fans (and hit the perfect shot).

  • The MC was also expelled. The PGA announced that comedian and actress Heather McMahan had resigned before the final day after instructing the crowd to participate in a letting chant to McIlroy.
  • Team USA gave it to the best. However, the American deficit in the first two days was too much to overcome, and Europe managed to win its sixth Ryder Cup in its last eight tournaments. Is Keegan Bradley responsible?
  • Flag, founding father’s costume and president: Trump and his granddaughter Kai were among the audience at a golf course in Bethpage State Park in New York.

Will the government be closed this week?

Too much to tell right away. President Donald Trump will meet with Congressional leaders from both White House parties on Monday within 48 hours of the deadline to avoid government shutdown. Without a breakthrough, “essential” government services such as military and law enforcement will continue to operate under closures, while “non-essential” services, including national parks, will be forced to close or reduce staffing. Senate Democrats are using rare moments of political leverage to demand that the funding bill reverse Medicaid and lose Obamacare subsidies.

  • These people found healthcare at the heart of the shutdown showdown.

Trump orders the army to Portland

President Trump has dispatched troops to Portland, Oregon, protecting immigration and customs enforcement facilities, and in the latest military deployments to U.S. cities. In a Truth Social Post on Saturday, the president said he allowed the military to use “full power if necessary.” The move follows weeks of protest outside the Ice field office in South Portland against Trump’s massive deportation of undocumented immigrants. In response to a question from USA Today, authorities have not stated how many forces will be involved in the deployment.
