SOUTHPORT, N.C. — North Carolina police charged the suspect in connection with a mass shooting in which at least eight people were injured in a bar along a river near the coast on Saturday, September 27th.
The shooting at the American Fish Company in Southport, North Carolina occurred around 9:30pm on September 27 when a gunman travelling by boat along Cape Fir River pulled up to a restaurant dock and fired on a crowd. The boat then fled the intracoastal waterway towards Oak Island.
Around 10pm, the U.S. Coast Guard detained someone who matched the description of the shooter who had pulled the boat out of the water on a public boat ramp about 12 miles from the restaurant where the shooting occurred, according to a press release from the police station.
The suspect, 40-year-old Nigel Max Edge, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of first-degree murder at Common Law, Southport Police Chief Todd Coring was confirmed on September 29.
Coring said early Sunday morning there was no longer a threat to the public, asking people to pray for the victims and their families
