The ready-to-eat meal batches shipped to the Walmart location are subject to public health warnings after federal health officials discovered that the product may have been contaminated in Listeria, which was previously linked to another recall.

According to the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service Notification Alert on Thursday, September 25th, samples of FDA-adjusted and cooked pasta from “marketside ringing with beef meatballs and marinara sauce” were tested as part of an “ongoing investigation” of the emergence of another Listeria in June 2025.

The ringin used as an ingredient in the diet kit that tested Listeria monocytogen is the same ringin used in Fresh Realm’s chicken fetttin alfredo meal, causing three deaths and 16 hospitalizations.

“We have long argued that the source of Listeria is likely to be a component supplied by third parties,” Fresh Realum said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press.

Based in Roseville, California, Nate’s finest food is a pasta supplier, according to a September 25th notification alert. USA Today contacted Nate’s finest food on Friday, September 26th, but there was no response.

The agency is conducting additional testing to determine whether Listeria is genetically related to a particular strain associated with an outbreak. “Market Side Ringuine with Beef Meatballs and Marinara Sauce” was shipped to Walmart stores nationwide.

“FSI is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who purchase these products are encouraged not to consume them,” the notification reads. “These products should be thrown away or returned to where they are purchased.”

Here’s what we know about previous research, including ways to improve the situation:

What is Listeria Monocytogen?

Listeria monocytogen (LM) is a bacteria that causes listeriosis and is a serious infectious disease that affects mostly the elderly, individuals with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, and newborns. Consumption of food contaminated in Listeria can cause listeriosis, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Common listeriosis symptoms include fever, muscle pain, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and cramps, according to the Cleveland clinic and USDA food safety and testing services.

As listeriosis spreads across the gastrointestinal tract, infections can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature births of pregnant women, and life-threatening infections in newborns. “Serious, sometimes fatal infections” can also occur in elderly people and people with weak immune systems.

According to the USDA Food Safety and Safety Testing Service, “People who have experienced flu-like symptoms within two months of eating contaminated food should tell their healthcare providers that they are eating contaminated food in search of medical care.”
