According to the military, Defense Secretary Pete Hegses is scheduled to convene a last-minute meeting of about 800 senior military leaders at Quantico, a Marine Corps base about 30 miles south of the Pentagon on September 30.

Such meetings with senior leaders are usually planned a few months in advance.

“The war secretary will address his senior military leaders early next week,” Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement. The pentagon refused to disclose the reasons for the meeting.

According to the Washington Post, which first reported the meeting, all senior officers above the rank of Brigadier General must attend the meeting. According to Congress’s Research Services, around 800 officers are currently categorized into that category.
