Law enforcement officials said the fatal shooting at a US immigration customs facility in Dallas, Texas, is being investigated as a “targeted” attack.
Officials say that the gunman fired from a nearby rooftop on the morning of September 24th, shooting three detainees on the morning of September 24th, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The unidentified shooter was found to be dead from a self-harmed gunshot wound, the agency said.
FBI Director Kash Patel said “the initial review of the evidence shows the ideological motives behind this attack.” Patel posted an image on X’s X, which is on site, containing one unadulterated casing with the word “anti-ice” inscribed.
Republican lawmakers, Trump administration officials and others are partially responsible for rhetoric that “devilizes” federal immigration agents. The incident is the second shooting at a Texas ice facility in recent weeks, in what officials have described as an increase in attacks on agency employees.
“We don’t know the motivation yet, but we know that our ICE law enforcement agencies face unprecedented violence against them, and that has to be stopped,” said Christie Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security.
In a statement on X, Vice President JD Vance said, “Obstracism attacks on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop.” He added, “Everyone has been hurt by this attack and I’m praying for my family.”
