From thick cuties to thick teddies, these brown bears and Alaskan preserves on the Brooks River in Katmai National Park devoured salmon to compete for this year’s annual Fat Bear Week.
The contest where the Bears compete for the vote to win the Portal Crown is headquartered at the edge of King Salmon Park, about 290 miles southwest of Anchorage.
After summer effort, the Bears reached what they hoped to be a peak plume when the single elimination tournament began on Wednesday, September 24th. At each matchup, contestants voted for bears who they believe “best illustrate the fat and success of the time.”
The Bears hibernate later this year, with the most votes to advance to the next round, with only one Fat Bear Week champion crowned. But as a 2025 Fat Bear King or Queen, what beauty does the internet crown?

When is Fat Bear Week?
Fat Bear Week 2025 will be held from Tuesday, September 23rd to 30th.
This year has been over 10 years since Fat Bear Week began. The annual contest began in 2014.
