Jordan Davis and Jalen get hurt

  • The Eagles came to life in the second half, opening off an offense, earning 26 unanswered points.
  • Jordan Davis blocked and returned a winning field goal in a 61-yard game over time.
  • Rams coach Sean McVay is 1-6 against the Eagles, including the playoffs.

Between the dazzling revenge factors and the only matchup in week three between the two undefeated teams, Sunday’s meeting with the Los Angeles Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles had almost every trap in the feature game, except for the actual broadcast spotlight.

Despite the importance of the defending champions who score bases in the Division’s playoff round and host teams rolled in the regular season, the 2025 showdown was relegated to a time slot at 1pm on the slate in early September. But regardless. The game, which was not a reprise of any of the results of last season, provided a lot of fresh entertainment. The Eagles scored 26 surprising unanswered points in the second half, with Jordan Davis closing out and returning the game-winning field goal back to 61 yards. And there have been a lot of fallout that could prove meaningful for the fall and beyond for the two teams that they think will be number again when forming NFC playoff photos.

The biggest winners and losers from Sunday’s showdown between the two NFC powers are:

Rams vs Eagles winner

Jordan Davis

His weight and limited statistical influence made him subject to frequent and almost unfair scrutiny early in his career. However, the No. 13 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft provided a signature performance that had little defensive tackles engraved. Combine standout, Davis was always physically anomaly at 6-6 pounds and 336 pounds. However, according to the next Gen Stats, he was recorded fastest since 2017 by over 330 pound players when he hit a top speed of 18.59 mph when he returned. And his contributions were isolated to that one play as he had a bag, a fourth run stop and five tackles.

Jalen hurts

Was this the wake-up call needed for Philadelphia to carry out a dormant passing attack? Pushed into holes 26-7 early in the third quarter, the Eagles finally opened up and flourished. After being held without a touchdown in the first two weeks, Hurts scored Los Angeles on 3-point strikes on 21 of 32 passes. Lane Johnson’s exit was a major retreat due to a neck injury, so it took some time for the attack to find its footing. But things looked up as Fred Johnson went down with a right tackle to replace the struggling Matt Pryor. Philadelphia may behave this way, as determined by certain circumstances, but it was certainly encouraging to see a facet that was not previously possible eventually come to fruition.

AJ Brown

This performance requires some catharsis for Brown’s performance, with six catches for 109 yards and a touchdown. In getting tough yards after the catch, the Eagles receiver took advantage of a much more conservative approach to make the most of an opportunity that had not appeared consistently in the two previous games. He was upset when the pass interference was not called due to the imperfection of the third goal, but teammate Devonta Smith completed his comeback with his own four-yard scoring grab to put Philadelphia forever.

Tush Push

Last week, the NFL appears to have notified the Eagles about the polarised signature drama by instructing civil servants to move forward with “tight.” However, Philadelphia was unflinching and advanced with two moves in the first quarter, giving him a first down and a subsequent touchdown. Despite the obvious early moves of right guard Tyler Steen every time, authorities did not throw a flag at either rush. The Eagles’ long match of greater offensive misery made the play unrelated to the long stretches, but the play and the controversy that follows are still reliable.

Jared Poem

In the City of Brotherly Love, the NFL defensive player of the year was already the Persona Nongrata of the City of Brotherly Love after declaring he hated Eagles fans ahead of last season’s playoff game. His position certainly did not improve after Sunday. On one play after Jalen, the poetry strip sack, the Rams scored cash on a touchdown from Matthew Stafford to Kylen Williams, extending the lead to 26-7. Verse finished with six tackles and two tackles.

Rams vs Eagles loser

Rams Attack

A very promising start never came close enough to beat a realistic champion. Despite missing Philadelphia (356-288 yards), Los Angeles seemed empty when it was most counted, and after three thirds on the third down, they settled on field goal attempts repeatedly. The rushing offense, which earned 115 yards in the first half with a variety of looks, failed to roll things around. The Rams added just 45 yards to the ground after halftime. Meanwhile, the passing attack didn’t do much damage again against the Philadelphia secondary after Matthew Stafford fired a 44-yard touchdown bomb at Davante Adams in the first quarter. This is where discussions about missed opportunities have to begin.

Rams secondary

Los Angeles coasted the first two games, struggling to pass the offense. When Philadelphia got offensive, the Rams’ defense backend wilted stretches. Sunday reminded me that this could be a unit that lives or dies in a pass rush. The answer to the injured Ahkello Witherspoon may finally come up, but for now there is nothing.

Joshua Curty

Carti set the tone early for Los Angeles’ success with a knuckleball kickoff that repeatedly plagued the Eagles. But two blocked kicks in the fourth quarter are the inevitable revenue of his game. Unlike other kickers who struggled early on, Karty doesn’t have to worry about job safety. Still, there are a lot of “what ifs”.

Saquon Berkley

It has been revealed that the 2024 NFL offensive player of the year hasn’t been heading for another 200 yard day since covering that mark with each outing against Los Angeles last year. While the Rams’ defensive focus and game balance leaned early, Berkley scored just 46 yards on 18 carries. However, he avoided the initial down with a critical third-and-3 in the red zone, which led to a major highlight in the waning minutes. He played a key role in handling the blitz pickup, but his contributions as a pass catcher (four receptions for 9 yards) were also muted.

Shawn McVay

During his victory over the Tennessee Titan last week, he tears the plantar fascia with his left foot. However, this result certainly becomes clever in a different way. McVay took part in 1-5 (including the playoffs) against the Eagles for his career. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio occupies a rare space as one of the few who have consistently thwarted the Rams’ offense at various stops. Despite how promising things could be seen early on, McVay couldn’t summon the answer before everything fell crashed again. Maybe that would beat Berkley’s trampling, but the outcome is definitely calm given the Eagles are coming back to potential NFC playoff photos again.
