WASHINGTON – The FBI recorded current White House border emperor Tom Homan and accepted $50,000 in cash last year during a secret investigation that was removed by the Trump administration last year.
Homan accepted the money after the executives suggested that agents could help posing to win government contracts in the second Trump terminology, MSNBC reported, citing familiar sources and internal documents.
The encounter has led to Homan, the director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Trump’s first term, to be investigated for bribery and other potential crimes.
Under the Trump administration, Justice Department officials have shut down the investigation because they suspected that ju judges who agreed to certain actions in exchange for cash could be convinced, the outlet reported.
Neither the White House nor the FBI denied in a statement that the Homan investigation had occurred.
“The issue occurred under previous administrations and was subject to a full review by FBI agents and Department of Justice prosecutors. They found no reliable evidence of criminal misconduct,” a joint statement by FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said.
“Sector resources must focus on real threats to Americans, not on unfounded investigations. As a result, investigations are closed.”
President Donald Trump told reporters that he left the White House for dinner that night and that he was unaware of the report.
White House Deputy Press Office Abigail Jackson investigated the investigation as “did not acknowledging evidence of illegal activities” in a statement accusing him of using DOJ resources to target Trump resources “as opposed to investigating real criminals.”
“Tom Homan has not been involved in determining the contract award. He is a career law enforcement officer and lifelong civil servant who has done incredible jobs on behalf of President Trump and the country,” she said.
Homan did not respond to USA Today’s request for comment.
