Young Americans do not use semicolons. Is that important?

It’s divisive. It cuts. It drives some people crazy. Author Kurt Vonnegut said of the semicolon: It’s flashy. It is mainly used to indicate that you have gone to university. More than two-thirds of young Americans claim to know how to use it. The test proved with roughly the same numbers, but in reality they didn’t.

Semicolons are wi punctuation marks. It separates items in the complex parts of a detailed list or sentence, as they are stronger, more thoughtful and less understood than humble commas.
