Jimmy Kimmel’s Charlie Kirk commented on ABC suspension
Jimmy Kimmel’s comments on Charlie Kirk’s shooting sparked a backlash, leading Walt Disney’s ABC to halt his show indefinitely.
People across the country are seeking a boycott of Disney and Hulu streaming services after ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel’s show from the Air indefinitely on September 17th.
Disney is the parent company of ABC. After the decision to pause “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, social media users have begun posting photos of cancellation receipts under the hashtags #CancelDisney and #CancelDisneyPlus.
What people are saying on social media when they cancel Disney Plus
“I’m going to cancel my Disney and ABC subscription for what they did to Jimmy Kimmel. Let them know how mad you are!!!” I wrote one user on X on September 17th.
“I cancelled my Disney Plus and full bundle. It’s a cliff, not a slippery slope, and Disney removed it,” another user wrote on Reddit. “We won’t go to Disney movies. No more. There’s no more parks. No more Star Wars toys and shirts. No more.
A Facebook user said they have cancelled their Disney Plus account after becoming a member since 2019 in protest of Kimmel’s suspension.
Indystar contacted Walt Disney Company on September 19 to comment on its subscription service, but there was no response before this article was published.
Not only ordinary fans, but celebrities are overwhelmed by Jimmy Kimmel’s controversy, and Disney Plus cancellation
Anger is not just from ordinary fans. Celebrities place great emphasis on controversy. This includes notable Disney actors and public figures such as David Letterman and former vice president Mike Pence.
Disney+ series star “Shehark: Lawyer” actor Tatiana Maslany has called on over 500,000 fans on Instagram to cancel his “Disney+, Full, and ESPN) subscription.
Former “supernatural” actor Misha Collins posted on X to her 2.6 million followers.
“It’s very easy to cancel your Disney+ subscription, and Cancerolion’s Collaborative National Day will send you a very clear message about our values as Americans,” actor Wil Wheaton posted on Blueski on September 18th.
Why are people canceling Disney?
Kimmel’s comments about Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing Charlie Kirk, came during his opening monologue on September 15th.
“We struck a few new lows over the weekend, desperately trying to characterise this child who murdered Charlie Kirk as something other than them, and desperately trying to do everything we could to score political points from there,” Kimmel said.
The conservatives took the issue of Kimmel’s meaning of Robinson being a member of the Magazine. Authorities have not confirmed the motive for the shooting.
In an interview with a conservative podcast, FCC president Brendan Kerr called Kimmel’s statement “the most sickest act possible.”
Nexstar Media draws an episode of Jimmy Kimmel, ABC continues
Nexstar Media, one of ABC’s biggest affiliate groups, announced on September 17th that it would not air episodes of Kimmel’s show. Shortly after this decision, the ABC pulled it out of the air.
Those seeking boycotts are angry at what they consider to be ABC, and in turn, parent company Disney has silenced criticism of President Donald Trump and his administration, sacrificing freedom of speech.
Free speech or business? Mike Pence places emphasis on Kimmel’s suspension
Former Vice President Mike Pence recently said the suspension is not an example of censorship, as it is a decision by the ABC, not the government.
“The first revision doesn’t protect celebrities who say terrible or thoughtless things, as Jimmy Kimmel inspired the tragedy of the nation,” he told the Atlantic.
Kimmel’s suspension came after a threat from Carr, which urged ABC’s parent company Disney to “take action” against Kimmel or the outcome of the risk.
“I would have preferred that the FCC chairman was not carrying any weight,” Pence told the Atlantic.
David Letterman: “You’re all looking where this is heading, are you right?”
Late-night talk show legend and Indianapolis native David Letterman added his thoughts on Kimmel’s controversy during his appearance at the Atlantic Festival on September 18th.
“We all feel bad about this, where is this going. Is it right? It’s managed media. It’s not good. It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous,” Letterman said. “And you can’t fire someone because you’re afraid or you’re trying to suck into authoritarian criminal administration in your oval office. That’s not how this works.”
Why are people cancelling Hulu?
Hulu is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC. People are also looking for a boycott of Hulu under the hashtag #Cancelhulu.
